Let me just take a minute to tell you a little about myself. I was a staff appraiser for a large bank for 8 years have been an Independent Fee Appraiser for over 10 years. I taught appraisal classes including one on how to inspect a home for appraisers. Prior to becoming an appraiser I was the business manager for a lumber and building supply company, was on the Board of Directors and part owner of a company that built windmill blades for large wind generation production, owned a company that repaired windmills (the big ones on the Altamont), owned a company that manufactured plantation shutters and did custom finish work. My back ground in the construction and business management fields eventually lead me to appraising which I have been doing now for over 18 years.
Appraising to me is an exciting new puzzle each day with each new house. How do the pieces fit together to make a clear picture? What is the market telling me? How can I do better?
I am a big believer in helping others and constant learning. New classes, new teachers and new experiences keep us sharp and expand our knowledge base. With each new piece of information we can reexamine what we have held as our beliefs and retest them to see if they are still serving us well or holding us back. Full disclosure and personal ethics are a very important core belief for me.
